Coldplay, for their most recent anemic foray into the ever more middle-of-the-road territory they seemd determined to occupy, went with a Les Misérables sort of styling that increased the ability of one and all to spot them, well Chris Martin at least, for the wanker he is from a much greater distance.

The thing is, as long as you’re not a self important imbecile who wishes he was as mad as a bag of hats, it isn’t a bad look. It’s all about poise, lines and understatement. Look at the shape this girl is pulling, jesus. Somebody should base a purely artistic and aesthetic structure on her.

Passes the time, but little else – 21 is neither good or as hip as it thinks it is, which is a shame because with a little humility this film would be a far more pleasurable experience, as it is you don’t feel angered for the 90 minutes of your life it just took, more a vague sense that the hour and a half could have been spent in a more worthwhile manner.

What do you need to know about There Will Be Blood, how about that cruelty has never been portrayed on screen like this, this film and Day-Lewis at its cold black heart open an abyss that you can’t help but stare into – “One night, I’m gonna come to you, inside of your house, wherever you’re sleeping, and I’m going to cut your throat.”

Kids on streets

This black and white moment was featured on this post about… I don’t know what.

It has a power. I regret not hanging on the street in what, by well-to-do individuals, would have been perceived as a ‘gang of kids’. I like to think of it more as a tribe, an urban posse of daily hierarcheal struggles that functions on skinned knuckles and cherryade, stolen cigarettes and super-strength alcohol all laced with the energy of youths exploding body.

Speed Racer is fucking Wachowski to its neon core, there is more green screen and style than should be allowed to fit inside a film as viewers eyes flounder and drown in an inspired mix of colour, blur and vibration dealt to the optic nerve in overdose proportions – it is ridiculous as it is orgasmic for spectrum starved peepers – believe me, after watching this you’ll realise you peepers have been fed a pale and tepid diet of the pastel and pallid for far too long.

Supreme Being Management is a place I’d like to hang out. You see they take burns of guys like Masa, who while arguably a little bit hippy, do cool better than most.

They also suggest to wear the threads Masa is rocking in NYC takes guts. I don’t remember anybody saying being the hip kid on the block was easy. The thing is though, his guts have made him an instant STNF hall-of-famer. And you know what? I fucking love wolves and am no small fan of foxes, and in an odd way, that makes this better. Props.

This isn’t as it seems, somewhere Be Kind Rewind tries to have a heart as opposed to just being lots of amusing ‘sweded’ films featuring Jack Black and Mos Def, and therefore it does fall between the two, rather than being either, or, as I suppose it was hoping, both.
